Millions celebrate New Year
Millions of Australians have celebrated the arrival of 1999, enjoying spectacular fireworks
displays, live music and parties across the country.
More than a million Sydneysiders were treated to an unprecedented $2 million fireworks
spectacular last night, which filled the sky with colour at 9pm and again at midnight.
However, the celebration was marred by several incidents, including two stabbings and an
air rifle shooting, all in the inner-city.
