Fed: WA Lib senator backs Amrozi death sentence
CANBERRA, Aug 11 AAP - West Australian Liberal senator Ross Lightfoot today weighedinto the debate over the death penalty handed to convicted Bali bomber Amrozi, backingthe sentence.
Lawyers for Amrozi have lodged an appeal against the death sentence imposed on him last week.
Human rights groups have criticised the ruling.
But Senator Lightfoot, who last year drew the ire of the Federal Court over commentsseveral years ago labelling Aborigines as the most primitive people on Earth, said Amroziwas a murderer who deserved to die.
"It may be opportune for all those who oppose the legal execution of the Kuta masskiller, Amrozi, for whatever their reasons, to understand that the recidivist rate forexecuted murderers is extremely low," he said in a statement.
